There is an option in Nero Vision for enabling forward/ backward jump during playback.
    What does this do?
I make chapters so I can skip ahead that way.
    How does this work?
    Thanks for any help.

What sort of output are you creating ?
What are you playing it back with ?

In ability to seek forward or backwards is usually a sign or poor encoding or poor authoring. I believe NeroVision to be completely capable of doing both. (yes, you read this right)

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. There is a box to check with the option I described above. As far as what output I'm creating, I guess the answer is I'm rendering avi's etc to eventually burn to DVD.
I thought the option was the ability to add markers to be able to seek certain parts of the tape.
I'm not saying I'm experiencing this as a problem with my burns.
I guess I should have worded the question better.
On the first window of Nero Vision where you add files, there is a tab at the bottom for video options. In that tab is a box you can check to enable forward and backward jumping durning playback.
I was wondering what that did exactly when you checked the box.
I don't think it has anything to do with encoding, but maybe I'm wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.

On my Sony standalone's remote, there are Next (FWD and REV) and Scan (FWD and REV) buttons. When I used Nero Vision I noticed that if I did not check that box then the Scan buttons were dead but I could still use the Next buttons to skip amongst the chapters all day long. If I checked the box then the Scan buttons were live and I could "scan" forward or backward without jumping to chapters to and fro.

    Just my $0.02

Thank you very much Kevo, I think your $0.02 worth is priceless.

I have that funtion on my DVR as well .

I was incorrect about which window in Nero Vision this option appears in.
It's the final window where you can choose this option not the first window.

I've checked the box this time and I'll see what happens.

    Thanks again
