  1. Ok, looking for a video genius to guide me through a situation that is totally new to me.

    (1) I have a DVD that I ripped using DVDshrink.
    (2) I wanted to edit some parts of the video, so I installed MPEGVCR yesterday, cut the parts out I didn't want and saved the new files as *.vob
    (3) I tried to burn the files as is but had a "reallocation" error from Nero....I researched that and found some info about IFOEDIT and a supposed workaround.
    (4) As recommended, I deleted all the .bup and .ifo files from my folder, saving only the .vob's
    (5) I ran IFOEDIT, chose "create new IFO's".
    (6) Having done that, Nero had no problem burning the DVD.

    BUT....

It's unwatchable. Just scattered junk on the screen and goes nowhere after loading.

One thing I was unsure of are the options in IFOEDIT. The "create one PGC only" and the "create chapters for each cell"....out to lunch on that, so maybe that's the problem.

    OR?

Could anyone give me a clue what I'm doing wrong?

    Thanks kindly.

You can use dvd shrink to both cut and then rejoin to one dvd. Use the reauthoring mode to cut out clips and then use it also to join all clips.

    or

Cut with MPEGVCR as you do but then reauthor all vobs with TDA instead of just creating ifos with ifoedit.

  3. I just realized that I can use Nero vision express to make a whole new DVD. Just open my DVD shrink VOB files and go through the process.

I don't care for the limited editing in DVD Shrink so I'll either continue to use the MPEGVCR or I guess even Nero will edit as well although I haven't pursued that yet.

    I have another question....

When Nero makes the new DVD, the whole process sure takes quite a while with it's "transcoding" (whatever).

I was looking at this software called MPEG VIDEO WIZARD DVD and wonder if it is more efficient?
(It did say something about "no transcoding")?

Are there programs that will simply take the shrink VOB files, add the bup's and ifo's and do it
"in a snap"? or at least much quicker than Nero?

    THANKS

If it already fits a single layer dvd and is dvd compliant use a author program that will accept vob files directly. I don't use nero so I don't know if it does. TMPGENC DVD AUTHOR does and does it very well - it will let you know if the files are in proper dvd format. From there you can reauthor the dvd to new menus and cut out whatever scenes you want. It's not a full fledged editor its an author program - but you can snip out comemrcials and what not with it. Certainly worth taking a look at the trial version. Or look for other author programs that can take vob files directly - I'm nearly a 100% certain dvd lab does.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

Yes, TMPGEnc DVD AUTHOR! doesn't transcode or reconvert.
