Converting a video w/out AAC audio and H264...

Ok I know how to convert and save videos without H264. But this is a different problem I just encountered. This particular video has both H264 and 0x00ff (AAC) audio.

Here's the GSpot stats:


This happens when I open the video in Virtual DUBmod and VirtualDub .. it doesnt matter which one I use.


I tried to full process compress the AAC audio and save it to either MP3 or AC3... none of worked. This is what it said:

I've done this before with other videos with different audio besides AAC and it worked fine..

I thought it would solve the problem if I installed AC3 ACM Decompressor and other codecs. But I guess AAC is different from AAC? Nothing worked for me.


So what do I do? Is there a AAC decompressor out there? Or other codecs I have to install? I can convert this video and save it without h264 just fine, but everytime I do that, THERES NO AUDIO! I also tried different audio converters, but that didnt work either.

P.S. I also got this message when I open the video. I guess I reinstalled some codecs it needed to open because I didnt see this message before. I was just frustrated with this and deleted some codec packs that I thought would solve my problem...but it didnt..

I had the same problem trying to convert an MKV that had AAC audio and this did it with no problems. This should be able to convert an AVI to AVI without the AAC and it supports H264

Not that I've seen no. I've used it to convert several MKVs to AVI and the quaility looks good. Your output AVI might come out larger but the quailty should be the same or close to it.

Not that I've seen no. I've used it to convert several MKVs to AVI and the quaility looks good. Your output AVI might come out larger but the quailty should be the same or close to it.

Have you ever encountered "Skipping frame!" on alltoavi? I dont know if thats normal... I see like a bunch of it.. and also see "Error while decoding frame"? I scan through the video and it looks fine.. -__-;; maybe I have to see it the whole thing if theres any error?

Most players have some form of error control that can hide or compensate for errors found in the stream, if they are mild enough. It might be as simple as skipping the bad frames, or creating a blended frame to fill the gaps. Encoders, on the otherhand, look at every frame, and will have problems with damaged or corrupt frames.

@azumi_yo : have you tried using mkvextract ? Depending on the codec used, you may not need to re-encode the mkv to get an avi - it may already have Xvid or similar content. Every re-encode with a lossy codec does reduces quality to some degree, even with high bitrates.

Yes, I've seen skip frame and dublicate frame errors but I couldn't see any difference in the playback of the video. I also get that a lot with convertX depending on the video. Just review the video first before saving it to make sure it's ok for you.

Yeah I've used that before. The alltoavi works like an automatic form of MKVextract. Either way I always convert ogms, mkvs to avi so I can put them on DVD.

like gspot.. what do you use to know the video bitrate or other specs for .mkv and .ogm?
