Can anyone comment on playing DIVX/XVID videos on either sizes of tv mentioned 32", 37", or 42"? I had a 52" projection tv before and it looked horrible, but because i'm only wanting a 37-42", I'd like to hear feedback on the size of this tv.
When viewing most divx/xvid videos on my 27" tv, black appears poorly, often looks blotchy. But typically, the movie looks great otherwise. Only when dark scences appear. Most members have commented how poorly black appears already, without watching either format. I feel a 32" wouldn't look too bad, but am more concerned with a 37 and 42".
I know that divix/xvid is compressed, which makes the black look this way, however, by expanding a tv size to 37" + it may look even worse. I'm hoping to get comments on this tv and the use of divx/xvid.
Thanks.

Hi,
I have a 42" LG Plasma TV and watch my movies either from an iPod or more recently via a wireless Media Player. The movies are all MPEG-4 XviD,DivX,Nero Digital and x264. I have found that in order to look good they must be at least 640x??? and the bitrate must be at least 1250 kbps for XviD DivX and Nero Digital. From DVD source they look very good, there are still occasional macroblocks in dark scenes and black scenes but that is inevitable no matter what Codec you compress it with. Since LCD's and Plasmas have such terrific contrast ratios they will always reveal that particular weakness in MPEG-4 Codecs. -
Depends on your personal tolerance for compression artifacts. If you are coming up from cable or DBS sat "digital" MPeg2 then you are conditioned to accept a lot of artifacts.
If you have experienced progressive 720x480/576 DVD, then it is difficult to go back. HDTV takes you up from there.
On the plus side, a 32" widescreen viewed from a normal distance won't look too bad.
