Is it possible to transfer DVD files from my computer to my Pioneer DVR-533H hard drive via several CD-RW discs? Reason being, I don't have a DVD burner in my computer. I guess it's easy enough to try, but thought I would ask first if there is a special method to it if at all.

If I converted to SVCD, I think I would loose the 5.1 surround, correct?

I'm just wondering if I transfer the DVD files onto a CD-RW and pop it into the Pioneer unit, will it allow me to transfer them to the hard drive where I can combine them all back and burn onto a DVD? Will it recognise the files on the CD-RW as being a short version of the original, or does it not recognize DVD format that is burned on a different medium? Or not like it because it is split up?

I suspect that this will not work. You cannot just copy files, even video, to the HDD of a stand alone unit in the same manner as you can a PC. Some have more flexibility than others, but I suspect you will not be able to what you are trying to do.

Ok.. if it doesn't work.. will an internal DVD burner that states min requirement Pentium III 700 work on my desktop computer that is a Celeron 700?

Yes I know, it's time to upgrade.. but we mainly use a new Dell laptop (wife's work computer) and it doesn't have a DVD burner. I rarely use the desktop computer. Would an external work with this old thing? I guess I could hook an external to her laptop.

A machine that age would probably also need to have a USB 2.0 card installed to make efficient use of an external burner. The laptop would be a better idea.
