  1. Wondering were you guys think the best place to legally download music is? I've never done any of this stuff, so i'm not 100% sure how it works. I know there is like Napster and now a million other sites that you can do this at. Which is the best as far as reliability, downloading speeds, virus/spyware free, music selection etc...

I remember seeing advertisments for like $10 a month for unlimited montly downloads with the exception that the songs can't be burned to mp3 players or CDs. And burnable songs being an extra $1 per song to burn...

    Any info would be great!

Only allofmp3.com has DRM-free music,so you can do whatever you want with it.

yahoo music is good. I like it. You can buy without being a subscirber. They are a 1.00 a song. You get a 192kbs wma file that you can burn to cd after you buy it.

If you join the subscription plan (cheapest is like 8 bucks a month for computer only downloads - more if you want to transfer subscriptions to an authorized mp3 player). If you do join the subscription plan you can download an unlimited number of songs but you can only play them on your computer - if you upgrade to the "to-go" plan you can transfer them to authorized mp3 players - but no cd burning. BUT if you are a subscriber the individual songs are only .80 cents each instead of a dollar - so if you buy five songs your get one free compared to the non-subscriber plan of 1.00 each - it adds up if you buy a lot.

yahoo music unlimited has good quality music - the files are good quality and the streaming audio is very good.

Oh and also if you subscribe you can stream full length songs instead of the usual 30 second clips if you want to listen before you download or rent.

I'm pretty sure napster works the same way - I just haven't signed up for it yet.

I listen to a lot of music but, to me anyway, downloading music from the internet seems to be somewhat overcomplicated. I mean, you can listen to the songs on a computer, but not on a portable player, DRM, playback restrictions, give me a break. No wonder there is so much "file sharing". Make the music available, name the price and let the customer buy it and listen to it whatever way they please for Pete's sake.
I looked at allofmp3.com, is that place even legal?

I buy cds from half.com then rip them into my computer

Often unless the CD is really hot or new I can get decent copies that cost me more for shipping then for the CD.

I have a closet full of CDs but I also have a hard drive full of DRM less music.
