  1. Hey guys, after much waiting and reading, and more waiting I finally broke down and decided to pony up a few $ for a descent VCR. I just acquired the above mentioned Marantz MV830 from ebay. It was sold with "JVC HR-S7600U" added to the title line. The description also mentioned "Pro-Cision 19 micron width EP heads" and was referenced as a re-badged JVC.

Can anyone confirm? Did I get a descent unit?

    Thanks,

    Scott

  2. Ok, so nobody knows anything about this unit.

That makes all of us apparently. Marantz support just sent me the wrong manual, and said they didn't have anything on file for this one. Oh well, my OneForAll remote seems to allow navigation of the menu system (somewhat). While the menu does appear to mirror that of a JVC unit, it does not appear to directly or indirectly correspond to the hr-s7600U.

JVC owners:: What should I be looking for, in order to determine what unit this one might "parallel?"

Should I post screen caps of the menus?

It sure looks like a JVC, but I don't think it is equivalent to a 7600.

The 7600 has a built in TBC/DNR. Does the Marantz have a TBC/DNR button?
The 7600 has time scan. Can you hear audio segments during search?
The 7600 has a Dynamic Drum. Is the picture in search free of noise bars?

If not, then my guess is that it is similar to a 3600.
Life is better when you focus on the signals instead of the noise.

  4. Yeah, the answer is "no" to all questions. I'll go download the 3600 manual and see if that looks more like this one.

Oh well, it was worth a shot. Guess I'll just have to keep looking. It actually does produce a much better picture than my 9 year old Magnovox, so I guess it might be worth keeping until I can get my hands on a better unit.

    Thanks for the help davideck.
