Hi Everyone,
Well, for the past year and a half I have been backing up my dvd collection. I have been using the TDK DV-R. Never had any problems till now. I get this error message that tells me its my media that I am using. One of my friends said its a burner issue. I have the Philips DVD8631 GD 30. Any suggestions or should I just try switching to a new dvd source?
Thanks for your help!

For some reason on my G4 Mac if I burn a cd, the cds I have it tells me the light is not strong enough, but it burns dvds fine.
If your burner has been working fine on the same media that is giving you problems, I would think its the burner. Thanks for all your help b/c I am a Mac idiot! -
Hmm...good point. But on the burning details it does say to " change media." I tried trouble shooting it and it said its fine. I'll switch media and let you guys know. Unless you know a trick to fix it. Thanks!

Uh...What's the exact error message? That may or may not mean much.
But, in general, media quality is the biggest problem in causing bad burns. And it's costs a lot less to try a different media than it does to replace a burner.
I don't use TDK much, but I assume they make their own media. Some companies, like HP or others use more than one manufacturer for media and those manufacturers may make their media in different locations around the world. With that, the media can vary by batch.
I would try some different brands before any other changes.
You might visit lordsmurf's website for some good information on DVD media: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/index.htm -
Thanks for your help. I'll try buying some different dvds. I mean for the past year and half it was working fine. I even purchased ANYDVD because someone suggested it to me. However, I am still having the same issue.

The log does help, thanks. PCA = Power Calibration Area. This from a Nero error site:
If you receive the "Power calibration error" or "Power calibration area is (almost) full" error message, the cause will be either poor media, poor power, or a defective recorder.
This can happen sometimes with a external burner with a weak power supply, but the most common is just problematic media. If you visit the Nero site linked above, it tells you a little more about Power Calibration errors. From your log, this appears to be the problem, though your log uses different wording. -
M3racer008,
There's one other thing you should check out. Just before the smelly stuff hits the fan, the log says "Init success: DVD-R packet writing". That alone could be killing your burns, and even if it worked, would produce a dvd-video disk that wouldn't work in a player. Is there someplace in the software where you can select DAO for the burning method...or anything but packet writing?
If not, you might want to try using ImgBurn for the actual burning part instead of 1Click DVD Copy 5. The already transoded files (ready for burning) are in the ""C:\Documents and Settings\PAUL\Application Data\1ClickDVDCopy\HOLLOW\" directory on your drive.
