I am currently without a DVD recorder so thought I'd try using my PC.......not so easy.

I recorded from sky to my sky+ box. I then played the program from my sky+ into my Twinhan USB connected box via an S-video and audio lead and recorded it. I now have the mpg file on my hard disk.

The question is that my DVD recorder allowed me to control the total time v quality that I can get on the disk, from 2hr high quality to 4hr EP quality. How can I do this with my PC?

What software are you capturing the video with? twinhan software? you can usually change quality settings or bitrate to get smaller file size. Or convert the captured mpg with an encoder to make it smaller, like tmpgenc xpress or shrink it with rejig.

and this is not dvd writer related. moving you.

I managed to record in lower quality. I then used Sonic Digitalmedia to put it on the disc and it fitted....great. Now I've got the problem that the disc won't play on a DVD player....

You should read the guides about capturing and different codecs. Theres so much you need to learn that would take thousands of replys in here.

That seems to be the problem. All I want to do is record off sky and write it to a DVD that I can then play on any machine, surely there must be a simple solution?
