    Hi,
I have a set of non-coyprighted DVDs that use AC-3 audio. The sound on these disks is not stable and frequently switches from stereo to the right speaker only. This switching goes on with enough frequency to be disruptive. I'd like to repair the audio and burn new disks.
Is there any way that I can convert the AC-3 to Mono and re-burn the disks?
If so, how do I go about it --- I've tried everyway that I can think of but no go. Is there software availiable to accomplish this and are there any guides which explain exactly how to go about rectifying this problem?
I've been stuck for a solution to this dilemma for a looong time now.
Thanks for any help that you folks may offer.
    Cheers,
    Fred

  2. Extract the separate MPEG and AC3 files from the DVD. Any number of application can do this such as SmartRipper.

Convert the AC3 to WAV, or find some application that can turn the AC3 to mono as is. Any number of applications can convert the WAV to mono, I even have a program I wrote myself that can do this.

Re-author a DVD from the extracted MPEG and AC3 or WAV that was converted to mono.

I'm not sure if this is much help. But I use VirtualDub Mod for AC3 extraction. I add the AC3 ACM Decompressor and after loading the video, I save out the file as a WAV. You will only have 2 channel AC3 this way. Then I convert the WAV to AC3 with ffmpeggui. I'm sure there are better ways, but this works for me. If your AC3 files are corrupted, this may be no help. After you convert to WAV, you should be able to play the audio file in most video or audio programs or editors. I use Audacity to clean up the WAV if needed. It can also convert it to dual stereo or mono. It only accepts MP3, Ogg and WAV audio.
