    Encoding performance sounds impressive.
TomsHardware and Anantech also did previews recently:

It will be nice when the quad core parts are available at mainstream pricing. Six months?

Anyone know what they're going to be priced at initially? I was planning on building my HTPC system with a Core 2 Duo E6400 or E6600, but if Kentsfield cores are reasonably priced, I'll use that instead.

Also, since I don't need the bells and whistles of XP x64 (not to mention half of my devices have no 64-bit drivers) and Vista is not here yet, I'm going to be using XP Home. Will there be a patch to enable the other two cores since XP Home only supports two cores?

  4. Initially (November) it will only be the Extreme Edition -- so you can expect the price will be ~$1000.

Microsoft says XP Home works with one CPU regardless of the number of cores. I don't have the link handy but it's at their web site.

Guess a Kentsfield is out for right now. Kinda figured as much.
