Start with the blue stickies just above your post. You mention DVD and AVI both. Which one are you wanting the subs in? You can make permanent subs with VirtualDub for AVIs or make them a separate file. Will you be playing the videos on a standalone player (DVD or DIVX) or the computer?

I have a avi file movie and it what it to play with subtitles an option on or off, on a standalone DVD Player.

If your player plays AVI, and if it supports subtitles in the format you have them, just put them on the sam disc, and use the same name for both. You should now be able to turn subtitles on and off just as if you'd play a Video DVD.

Ah - you want to:
A) Convert the AVI to Video DVD
B) Add subtitles (in a so far to me unknown format) to the VideoDVD
Convertx2dvd seems like the tool for you.
Or start reading here!

thanks thats correct
actually i just realised that the video is a Mpeg format. How do, i do what i want above?
I have downloaded ConvertXtoDVD for future needs.Profoundly deaf. -
If the mpg is in DVD format already (see what Is DVD top left) and the subtitles is in .srt format, just author it with DVD-Lab Pro or DVDAuthorGUI (which suports import of subtitles in .srt format)
If not, convertx2dvd is still an option.
A general note: Be as specific as you possibly can regading your source material (Note-note: file names are rarely any assistance at all) , and what you want to end up with. That takes lots of guesswork out of trying to assist.
(GSpot is a good tool for getting the specifics of a video file)
