I wanna make a First Post, after a year on the lamb, I have a lil warning for ya, I bought a DVD Camcorder this past year and man let me tell ya, BIGGEST mistake EVAH! Can NOT rip the mini-DVD's , have to record them from the camera through my ATI Card.. sucks because if this camera gets broke.. as my cams usually do, I am scrood cause I will never buy another DVD Cam again! I miss my Digital 8 by sony but the last 3 cameras I had the door jammed and they were a'gonner! So I thought this would be a better cam.. I was wrong. I have made some cool findings, and am into new stuff.. but not sire if it fits on here, I have recently began doing some cellphone stuff, and being the video clown I am I was strung out on making videos for my phone (3gp) format, if anyone is interested I will post some stuff I do with Premiere and Nokia Phones.. if not and if it is out of context here.. no biggie. But I do still do DVD's , video and LOVE Premiere Pro 2.0.. but anyways, a quick update, been a busy year for me, my website is gone, no interest from anyone, I bought a house, my kids are growing and time is not something I have a lot of. But I love this site and love video editing and everything video. So holla at ya boy!

Hey!!! I think DVD camcorders suck to. I looked at getting one of the sony ones just as second camcorder, but when I saw the crappy quality at a shop here in oz.........No thanks, even the hard disk version was nothing special, but better than JVC's. Stick staunch brother

What happened when you put the miniDVD in the DVD drive ? DVDfab and DVDdecrypter can't see the files ?

it starts to rip (used DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink and even a straight copy using Nero) Kept getting read errors. A pain in the butt!
I have even tried to play it in my modded x-box and copy through my capture card, even that was a waste of time, so the only way to copy it is to play it from the camera through my ATI Card and record in DVD MPG format. Yeah it looks ok but I was trying to save some time. -
Now I have a stack of mini DVD's to copy and I just don't feel like it..lol. If this cam breaks two days from now I am scrood. I worship the Digital 8 cams now.. I will buy another off ebay later this year, I have over 300 D8 tapes also, so I really need one anyways.. but the Sony cams are a booger on door jams. Let's not even talk about what Sony charges to fix a door jam..more than the camera is worth.. sad. But the quality is awesome from the D8 tapes, not the best but for what I do.. great!

You know what I would like to see here? A forum topic on Video Cameras.. I would like to try something new but want to see what others think. This forum needs a Camera Topic Forum.. seriously. Please Baldrick.. can you make a part of this forum for just Video Cameras? TIA!

I own a mini dv cam. I didn't buy a dvd cam because I thought mpeg2 capture although more convenient might be a step back codec wise especially when editing. I'm waiting for a divx camera. I saw one but it is marketed more as a digital photo camera with divx capability with memory cards. There was not too much info about the res etc... and I never pursued the subject but one day for me that will be the way to go.
I'm glad I never bought a mini dvd cam if you can't finalise the discs and transfer the digital files on your pc.

Friendly suggestion.
Where possible, try to post your consecutive comments in one post only. Some members have been yellow carded and even banned for post whoring as it has been called.
It's not always possibe to do but in some cases so little time as passed between posts that it is apparent that this is what is happening. Remember if you forgot something you can always edit your previous post unless it will break the flow of the discussion.
As far as analogue capture of digital mini dvd data, I would repost this topic where I gave you the link because it is a shame that you have to recapture. I'm sure someone has a camera like yours and knows what the problem is. I wonder why you just can't transfer the vob files and re-edit and re-author those. Like I said I don't have that kind of camera so maybe I am missing something obvious about the format but it's worth a try. -
