I have an AC3 file that is 2.0 Dolby Digital. I know it won't be true Dolby Digital 5.1 but is there a way to convert the 2.0 DD AC3 to a 5.1 DD AC3? Thanks.

It's probably a waste of time, but if you really want to, this thread may help:

Thanks for the link. Your right, it is probably a waste of time but I am going to do a quick test to see if it actually makes any difference. As for the link, I was able to find the info I was looking for on that page. Thanks again.

I've used Nero VisionExpress 3 (part of Nero 6) with the purchased dolby plug-in to sucessfully do this. (Didn't have a dolby decoder then but did have 5.1 active speakers plugged into DVD player) Results were better than I expected (but not brilliant by any stretch of the imagination!) and it did improve the viewing experience but a dolby decoder gives a much better result and saves a lot of time & hassle. It was an interesting experiment that finally convinced me to get a dolby decoder.
