Universal has plans on opening up a free music service, but right now there's nothing free I know of.

What a load of bullshit, Limewire is not at fault but rather the idiot who is using it. I suppose it is easy to blame a piece of software instead of admitting that your clueless self was downloading warez and ended up getting a virus what caused mayhem (tough shit, you deserved it).

Best thing to do is ask mommy and daddy for assistance in stealing.

The only clown i see is you and your false remarks, you clearly do not know how to use limewire. If your gullable to download and run files what opens your machine up to the net, then that is down to you and ONLY you.

Best thing for you is disconnect from the internet because your one of those people who will have problems with "hackers", no matter what you use

There are 2 types of music:
    Copyrighted
    Public Domain

I think what raised the seemingly harsh responses is that you may not be aware that unauthorised downloading of copyrighted music is considered warez and is against the policy of this site. Your query is a bit vague and at the very least raises suspicions.

It would seem unusual for someone seeking public domain music to search for it using p2p and complain of hackers. I know some sites place public domain videos on p2p to save bandwidth but you first have to visit their http site to get the link.

I know it could happen but most people looking for freely distributed copyrighted music wouldn't use p2p to do it mainly because there is no way to know if the artist and/or producers/distributors intended that those works be released without some form of compensation. While theoretically possible, it is unlikely that any of them would release their music on p2p since there isn't any advertising revenue or graphically visible exposure for their work.

I'm not accusing you of anything and the mods have obviously taken a very liberal wait and see attitude which at least is consistent with precedent cases.

If "big name artists" are not needed, you might find a lot of good music in the Internet Archives:

    http://www.archive.org/details/audio

Everything there is public domain and free to download.

Just to correct a general misconception. There are email lists and private web sites where musicians and others share non-copyright or limited licence material over public and private p2p trackers. One group, I belong to, serves tens of gigabytes every week. Some of this material is multi tracked and thus sometimes highlighted on warez pages, but every byte is legitimate and checked by the list operators.
