I've been looking online for high capacity mp3 players and I've seen these usb enclosures for harddrives that will play without a computer. Some even have lcd displays so they can act just like a mp3 player. But the nice things about these is they can go to virtually any size.

It seems that 2.5 inch hdd pmp's are more common than 3.5 inch versions. I'd love a 3.5 inch version since those drives are so much cheaper than the notebook harddrives.

Ideally I'd like to get a 3.5 inch media enclosure and use a 80 or 160gb hard drive and load all my cds at top quality mp3 or wma and take to work with me. Then I'd hardly ever have to change the music since I'd have it all with me - except when I buy new music of course.

I've seen some for a $100 or so. I've seen the 2.5 inch versions for under $50 plus shipping on ebay. Unfortunately I don't know if those can work as standalone mp3 players, they have remotes but I don't know if they require a display to navigate the menus.

Any advice on these would be useful. I'm thinking of these instead of a dedicated mp3 player. The option of hooking them up to a tv would be great. Then I wouldn't have to burn a dvd right away. I could just capture to the enclosure device and then take it to the tv and watch it.

    Thanks in advance.

FYI I'd like the 3.5 inch versions more since I don't have any notebook harddrives to use. And the cheapest one I saw at bestbuy was $60 for a 60gb hitachi.
