Hi everyone![]()
I want to resize a 720 x 416 AVI file to 720 x 480. After that I want to convert the new AVI file to VOB, using DivXToDVD.
Will the VOB file still have the same width of 720 or will part of the original with would be cut off?
Thanks

Thanks, Rick.
DivXToDVD did cut off a little on the sides.
My original AVI (720 x 416) looks somewhat funny, without the upper and lower black bands. When I converted it to VOB, using DivXToDVD, the bands were added automatically to make the screen size become 720 x 480 and the sides were cut off a little.
I resized my AVI to 720 x 480 and converted it to VOB, still using DivXToDVD. There were not any bands but the sizes were still cut off a little. -
Your TV is cutting off the sides. It cuts the sides of of everything you watch. It's called overscan and is normal.

Thanks, jagabo
OK! This is what I did, just for experimenting with different sizes.
I used the same AVI file (720 x 416), same softwares VirtualDubMod & DivXToDVD.
1) Keeping the original size (720 x 416), I converted the file to VOB then burn them onto a disc. When I watched it on my NEC TV monitor, using my Philips DVP642, I could watch the movie at 2 different settings.
a. When I set the video display of the Philips at 4:3 (LB), the movie was shown with the upper and lower black bands and the picture was somewhat distorted (people looked shorter, for example).
b. When I set the video display at 16:9 (WS), the movie was shown full-screen with every detail that was shown in the 4:3 setting. No upper or lower bands. The picture was not distorted.
2) I resized the AVI to 720 x 480, converted it to VOB then burnt it onto a disc. When I played it with the video display at 4:3 (LB), the movie was shown full-screen with every details, just like in 1-b.
Please note that in both cases 1 & 2, the sides of the screen were cut off a little when I compared it to the AVI on the computer monitor. (I think this is what jagabo meant in his post)
3) I resized the AVI to 720 x 460, converted it to VOB then burnt it onto a disc. When I played it at 16:9 video display, not only the movie was shown full-screen, the sides of the AVI were not cut off.
I feel dizzy trying to figure out the logics behind all these "crazy" happenings.

The latest release of ConvertXtoDVD can take a feed from avisynth, so scripts generated by FitCD can be used.
