  1. Some hopefully not too stupid questions...

I got a harddisk full of captured movies (from miniDV camera to harddisk, one file per miniDV cassette, used Microsoft MovieMaker for this), but basically no idea how to edit them. All I want to do is take the whole file, create some chapters or indexing points (or however this is called, I just want to skip sections using the >> button on my remote), add a title and burn this onto DVD.

Are there free tools to do this ? Which one(s) do you recommend ? I´m an absolute beginner, so please nothing like Premiere...

    Thanks in advance !

Creating chapters is so called authoring and not really editing, so you use a simple all-in-one DVD authoring tool like Nero Vision, Ulead DVD Moviefactory, Ulead DVD Workshop.

If you want free tools you must first convert your source to dvd mpeg2 with a free encoders like quenc and then use free authoring tools like dvdauthorgui, gui for dvdauthor, dvdstyler.
