    Hi,

Do you know some sites where to find galleries with nice free background pictures/templates to be used to make DVD menus?

    Thanks in advance.

you could just search wallpaper sites, and find some nice backgrounds that way. And edit them to the size needed for your dvd program. Or you can check out sites like stock.xchng for images that may fit the idea of your dvd

also you could take snapshots and save the pics off of your video files to use as your background. Most software players will let you take a still picture of your video.

I second the use of royalty free stock sites. There are quite a few now that have free images that can be used for both private and commercial projects at no ongoing cost. morguefile.com is another good one.

Of course, if you have something very specific in mind, you will probably have to take the images yourself or commission someone to do it for you. But as the basis for a menu, or for something to manipulate in photoshop for other ends, these are a great starting point.

  6. I wonder if you should note copyright for house-hold work, as long as you don't modify the image and leave the signature as it is. I have seen lot nice pictures on pbase.com and I am willing to use them 'as it is' but I don't know about 1. copyright and 2. if that low resolution is ok to be used as a DVD background image.

    Any comments?

When it comes to images and DVD, resolution is usually the last thing to worry about, as DVD res is limited to 720x576 max. I see the pbase images are 567x567, but I think they'll do nicely, if you resize using a good filter.
