There are a lot of filters in VirtualDub that I like to use, especially the Reverse Field Dominance filter when working with VOB files.

Can I apply filters to my VOBs and frameserve out from VirtualDub into Moviestudio for final editing?
    Regards,

You can reverse the field order in Vegas by right-clicking on the clip and selecting properties. From there you can alter field order.

You should also check out WAX2, which can act as a plugin for Vegas, and so probably Vegas Movie Studio as well (don't have it, can't confirm it), which allows you to use a number of virtualdub filters from the Vegas timeline.

Finally, you should also check out the Debugmode Frameserver (from the same people as WAX), which allows you to frameserve from the Vegas timeline. That way, if you cannot go from Virtualdub into Vegas Movie Studio, you might well be able to go the other way.

As to your original question - what is stopping you from trying it ? You can't break anything by giving it a go.

Even if you could, my major reservation in going from Virtualdub to your editor is that virtualdub isn't the fastest software a round, and many of the plugins can slow playback to only a few frames per second or less. That is not the type of perfromance you want while editing.

I did try but MovieStudio didn't recognise the vdf file.

I'm quite happy with the performance of the VD filters if they work - they should be better than my current approach which is to convert the VOB to DV in VirtualDub and then edit in MovieStudio before exporting. If I can skip the DV part I should save time and diskspace.

Try WAX2 and see if it works with Movie Studio. If it does, many of the vdub filters will be usable from within Vegas.

Reversing the field order in Vegas simply tells the program what field order the source video is. Vegas simply passes that information along to the output MPEG file. For example, If Vegas incorrectly identifies a TFF source as BFF it will create a TFF MPEG file but flag it as BFF. The DVD player will then play the fields in the wrong order. If you override the field order and specify that the source is TFF Vegas will still create an TFF MPEG file, but now it will be properly flagged as TFF. The DVD player will now play the fields in the correct order.

VirtualDub's Reverse Field Dominance actually changes the field order of the video. It does this by removing the topmost scanline of the image and adding a scanline at the bottom. What was the top field is now the bottom field, what was the bottom field is now the top field.
