    how do you play this movie which has a .pdi at end

    It is an image format like iso. Use for example daemon tools and open the pdi to make a virtual dvd drive. You can also burn it with dvddecrypter or convert to .iso format, see http://www.mrbass.org/instantcopy/

    many thanks I have since found out its pinnacle image files and I found a tool called PDITool which is now making a video_ts folder with all the movie .vob files many thanks anyway for helping me
