  1. I've downloaded some .mkv videos recently, that VirtualDubMod doesn't open.

    Dr.DivX convert it realy fast, but it seems to kep the key frames only, so it's like paging a comic book, fast images passing.

    I believe that if you can create a format, you "destroy" it.

    So it must be a way to "open" the .mkv container and ripout the video and audio.

    But how?

    mkvextract ? Virtualdub hasn't properly supported mkv for a while, and the newer versions actually tell you this when you open an mkv file. Try some of the other, dedicated mkv tools instead.
