So all was fine on my first 5 DVD DL backups using imageburn (and Nero for 5 SL's.) The DL media I am using is Verbatim MKM 001.

Then I tried backing up another DVD-ROM DL with Imgburn v2 and got the following messages depending on various tweaks I made on the VIDEO_TS folder when writing.

    ECC Block Boundary
    I/O Device Error
    Power Calibration Area Error

So I transferred the VIDEO_TS folder to my wife's PC and Nero burned it just fine on her BenQ dw1620.

    Went back to my PC.

The Pio is showing as UDMA4 and is primary master. (Remember it was working fine so I don't believe it is a cable or udma4 problem any) I uninstalled Nero and Imgburn and reinstalled. Made no difference.

For jollies I ran it through DVD shrink (unshrunk and kept the layer break) and had it go to Nero. (See Log one) Then I recaptured it with DVDFabDycypter to make certain it wasn't corrupted and ran it on a Fujifilm DL.

When you uninstalled NERO did you use the NERO CLEAN TOOL? If you didn't then try uninstalling NERO then use the NERO CLEAN TOOL then reboot the pc and reinstall it.

Also do a burst rate test in CDSPEED version 4.51.1. It should correctly be about 23-24 burst rate.

Well... ran to BB. They hada LG-H10L on sale.

Picked it up. Slapped it in. Ran the same file through it and into imburn and voila... it finalized and is verifying as I type.

That's the shortest period of time a drive has lasted for me. 3 and a half days. Time for RMA. And I think I need to pick up a good external enclosure for it.

Budz: thanks for the input and for helping.

so you're returning the Pioneer drive? have you flashed it back to the original firmware? fyi when you flashed it with tdb firmware you voided the original warranty.

Here's how I see it. If I flash the DVD Writer and the flash breaks it - fine. My loss. But if it works and burns perfectly for three days making 5 DL and 2 SL DVD's then the laser went bad and that has nothing to do with the flash.

No matter what you think on how the drive was flashed, you've still voided the warranty because you didn't use the official Pioneer firmware plain and simple. :P
