  1. I have a picture that i have to put on a corner of a DVD (vob) file and though i have tried many programs, i cant seem to do it. I also tried DVDAuthorGUI but it doesnt add a button in the menu that is less than 4 bit bitmap image and i cant find a software to do convert the pic to less than 16 bit.

Is there any freeware that can add a small picture to a movie in dvd format (or any other).
To make it clear, I want to add a pic (like a subtitle is added- but not text) on top of a movie - i think its called a tag, and I need a freeware so without any watermarks or anything..

You can only do this by re-encoding the entire video. If you want to do it for free, you will have to demux the video, load it into virtualdubmod/mpeg2, add your picture overlay (there is a guide to do this somweher around here), frameserve it to an an ecoder, then re-author. If you can reduce it to four colours (photoshop can do this, and I dare say freeware like irfanview can also do it) then you can add it as a subtitle, however it is not a permanent mark and can be easily removed.

    Dont forget avisynth script's ...

There is one somewhere here on site to do with mask's .

Dvdauthorgui can generate motion thumbnail script ... same thing ... with a little editing of the script ... you can have it ... and it's permanent .

You could create it as a forced subtitle, displaying thruout the movie. That wouldn't require reencoding of the video, just reauthoring.
Not that I know how to create forced subtitles, but that's a different story...

DVDLab Pro 2.0 lets you do that. From the help:

You would use the 'Buttons Over Video" function. First create your graphic as a BOV. Then set it to "Network Bug". This can be used to quickly turn selected object into a "Network Bug" that will cover part of the screen, but it will have no other functionality. This is often used to quickly customize dailies for different customers where you can add provisional text or simple logo without re-encoding the whole movie.

It's not "free" but it's the best solution to date to do what you want to do. It's really nice not to have to BURN the logo into the video. Give the trial version a go and see what you think.

If you are doing this for some sort of branding and and ownership, then anything short of actually encoding it into the video requires only a rip and re-author to remove. Subtitles and BOV are just subpictures (with the same four colour restrictions), and can be easily discarded by something like DVD Shrink.

I agree with gunslinger that it can be easily removed (either subtitles or bov's).

But I like the BOV "Network Bug" trick -- it's a very quick way to add something to an entire video and not have to re-encode. And it isn't as easy to turn them off like you can turn off subtitles

Hey, maybe there's a way to "personalize" for each client (i.e. change the bug based on the client). You wouldn't have to go through a lengthy re-encode for each DVD -- just change the BOV and re-compile

But yes, I agree that for something permanent you should "burn" it into the actual video...

    George
