    Hi there

I'm a newbie at this kind of thing so please forgive me if this is a very stupid and simple question!

I am about to author a DVD (all the projects are in NTSC format if that makes any difference), and I would like to make it Region Free. The software I am using to author the DVD is Sonic DVDit!

How would I go about making it Region Free, or is just Region Free automatically unless you encode it to a specific region?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

I would say its Region Free by default if you are authoring a DVD.

Waheed is correct. To put it another way that might be helpful to you, the Big Movie Studios don't think it would be of any use for you, a mere consumer, to have access to region code producing software. They reserve that right for themselves. You CAN'T make a DVD with a region code on it through normal authoring programs. Usually region coding is set on at the manufacturing plant with a specail program not available to consumers.

  4. @jman,

that is not what I have found using different authoring programs. In the ones I have used the region has always been set to "all regions" by default, but if I want to I could change it. Then again I have only used DVDMaestro the last two years.

I've used alot of programs that have an option for setting to a specific region, it was a full blown do or die mission for over a year and i have yet to find a way that will set a dvd'r to any one specific region.

Thanks for all your help guys.

I actually want the DVD to be totally Region Free anyway, so I'm now confident that I don't have to actually do anything to make it that way!

    Cheers

  7. Leaving it NTSC is probably the best as well. Most Region 2 DVD players can play NTSC as Japan, an NTSC country is also part of Region 2. Not sure about regions 3 through 6.

In Ulead DVD Workshop you can set it to no regions, or choose any or all regions.
