I have a Pioneer DVR-111D running on a P4 2GHz system with 1MB of RAM. Firmware on Pioneer v1.23.
I rip a dvd to my hard drive using DVD Shrink 3.2 then copy it directly to a DVD-R media.
I am using DataWare 8x 4.38GB DVD-R media (MID: TYG02 with writing speeds of 2x, 4x, 6x, 8x, 12x).
I seem to get pixelation when I play the DVD back on my set-top dvd player, but none when I play the DVD off my computer. I've tried every speed when writing. Sometimes I get good results with high speeds, sometimes good results with low speeds, sometime no difference. Is it a set-top issue...DVD-R media issue...
In order to get my firmware on the Pioneer to upgrade, I had to uninstall the Intel Application Accelerator (which is an IDE ATA controller "tweaked" by Intel) and use the MS controller driver. I notice that the hard drive response has slowed. Should I re-install? There was still pixellation with the 1.19 firmware installed and with the IAA installed.
Would appreciate your help.
Regards,

If you backed up complete dvd and kept everything, menus, extras and movie this might have pushed your compression rate way up.pixelation not being seen on computer is probably due to your monitor being a lot small than your TV monitor then bigger the screen the more pixelation you will see with a higher compression rate,if you dont want to keep everything on the dvd use reauthor button on shrink drag and drop main movie title set from the right and drop in available area on the left then click the compression tab eliminate audio tiles you dont want, french, spanish, english, keep the language you listen to.dont know what size tv your watching this on a rule for me( I am picky about picture quality)70% for me is max and I use the deep analise settings set for either xtra smooth or xtra sharp.anything under 70% for me goes to dvd rebuilder and CCE with 4 passes.I watch my dvds on a 27 inch CTR tv monitor and everything looks great for me.

UPDATE:
Since posting, I went out and bought some Verbatim 4.7GB 16x DVD's...and blasted the same disc image(s) that I had on the old media, onto the new one. No more pixellation.
Turns out it was the media in this case. You really have to do your homework before you buy. VideoHelp.com helped me determine what media was best at the local store. Thanx for all the feedback. -
Usually media related issues cause jumping / skipping / pauses.
Media is mostly all trial and error. Trying to find what works best in your pc/burner and then on your standalones.
Glad you got it figured out.Google is your Friend
