Yeah, I saw this review earlier. I have been interested in this feature, but haven't seen a lot of information on it.
For me, I think I'll hang back and watch, and see which one (if either)comes out on top. I get a feeling that there's a lot of improvements that can be made, and one of these companies will discontinue eventually. At this point the demand does not seem to be too great for this feature - the label printing technique still commands the majority market share. Until that changes, not much may happen, and it will remain expensive and limited. Interestingly, The 'scribing' burners themselves are not much more expensive than regular ones, but the media is more expensive, and is limited.

  2. I use a simple system for evaluating consumer acceptance of new hardware. The rate at which local stores stock the product.

I am now seeing more lightscribe blanks than DL media. Several manufacturers, even stores like Office Depot are stocking the blanks.

Personally I don't care for the label quality, but I think it is here to stay.

I just burned some LightScribe discs. The technology creates disk that a bit washed out for my test, but it is functional. The problem is the 30 minutes needed to burn a label with the best contrast. I like the sepia resulting color.

I used to have a Yamaha F1 CD burner. It supported the DiscT@2 labeling technology and it was pretty cool back then.

Even though it takes almost 30 minutes to burn a label, it will be useful under some circumstances. With LighScribe, if the disk gets wet, the label will not fade as with some inkjet prints.

Me too, although I would hardly say it was cool! Even with the specific CD media it was barely visible and you had to keep tilting the disk around to see it.
