A friend just upgraded his DVD drive & gave me his old drive, an Optorite DD0405. Anyone have any thoughts on what the best media is for it. I have a Lite-on that prefers + media, as opposed to - media & I was just wondering what others that might have the Optorite have found works best.

I have no knowledge of this particular DVD burner but if you decide to go with DVD-R then the best would be Taiyo Yuden (8x or 16x although I feel the 8x is a hint better) or Verbatim (the 16x type).

If you go with DVD+R then you cannot beat the Taiyo Yuden DVD+R discs.

Taiyo Yuden can be bought on-line at RIMA.COM whereas you can buy Verbatim at many retail stores. In fact Verbatim is very often on sale so check the ads out in the Sunday paper. OFFICE MAX and BEST BUY are the two retail stores that most often seem to have Verbatim on sale.

  3. Wouldn't it be great if VideoHelp would set up an entire section of the site devoted to discussing the features of specific DVD writers, along with which media works best?

    Wait a minute........ They did!

Thanks for the replys... Actually I just received an order of TY 8X plus disks for my Lite-On from Rima last week, so I already know about that, also I have been on the Videohelp site that drjtech has suggested. I was looking for a more broader input. Most of the disks on the Videohelp site are no longer available because they have been fazed out for more updated disks. I just thought that if there was someone in particular that had this writer & found disks that worked better than others that would be of some help, not only to me, but possibly to others that have the same writer.
I know that with my Lite-On 451 I bought a stack of 100 Imation 8X plus disks & did not have a single coaster & they all play great in my Philips 642. Now that sort of information could be of some value to anyone else that might have the same combination.
    Just asking.

  5. Don't forget writing to a disc is only half the story - your target drive needs to be compatible with it too. Some standalone DVD players in particular can be very fussy with recordable media.
