  1. I am debating between waiting for the Dr-M101S which was suppose to come out in May and the Toshiba DR-5. I was wondering if anyone has heard or read when the DR-M101S is suppose to hit stores.

  2. well, I live in Canada, and after much effort got a dr-m100s, and lo and behold , after a few misfires media wise(Never had this problem with other recorders),I am getting the Loading bug, yes on a M100, no m10.

It was a refurb, and my chances of getting completely free fix are remote, any advice anyone.

This does not bode well for JVC, sorry Lordsmurf, you are right, great picture quality, I even brought a pal one in the uk when there, and that works fine. How do they get away with such crappy warranties here in the North Americas.

    Very very sad.

  3. The M10 would respond with "loading" in some cases if it did not like the media. Is this the same problem you are describing? The M10's more famous loading bug did not have to do with media. It would go into "loading" mode indefinitely even if it was just being used to watch TV with no media present.

I have never heard of a DR-M100S error, because the machines are built differently than previous models were. It cannot get the power problem, and the LSI heat issue should be mostly resolved too (for one, the fan seem to pump out more air on the newer ones).

Then again, "loading" is a generic warning that something is wrong.

Most often, bad media is the issue, as trhouse mentions. What are you using in it?

2.4x discs would be +RW media (not supported by JVC till the 101s model). You need -R, -RW or -RAM discs.

Have you tried unplugging it for awhile then when you plug it in again, turn POWER SAVE option on.

I have 2 friends who got the "LOADING" error on the DRM100. They both use quality media.

You have to remember DVD recorders have issues with certain 8x and 16x media. There's a lot of options on what it could be.

  9. There's also the possibility it's just more JVC problems. What's new?

  10. Thanks for all the interest in this.

I tried a few different media, it worked fine for a few discs then went weird, would not even let me enter the menu just kept opening the drawer, first with "loading" flashing then "reset" when I tried the manual attempt at trouble shooting.

Would not even read a movie dvd.

It is now on its way back to JVC via the local repair shop-he warned me , at least 3 weeks.

yes recorders have issues with media they do not like, but not any of my , rj tech/curtis/toshiba/daytek recorders have ever done this, and machines should not jam, merely just not work with the media.

    Thanks again.

I was having problems with my DR-M100. Sometimes when you press the play & record buttons to start a recording the display flashes "RESET" and won't start the recording for at least a minute to a minute half or the recording would start immediately but stop after a few seconds. The media used didn't seem to matter either. I tried everything from TY, Maxell (MIJ), Ritek, etc. I finally got my unit working by popping open the unit and pulling out the ribbon cable connecting the drive to the main board, then reseating the cable in the connector. My guess is that the cable wasn't seated properly in the connector or may have been dirty, but now it burns OK and with any brand media I've tried (TY, Maxell (MIJ), CMC, Ritek, Prodisc). Please note that opening up the unit may VOID any existing WARRANTY that you currently have and I wouldn't suggest doing this if your not comfortable doing this kind of thing. But this did work for me.

  12. Could we get back on my original question please

  13. don't buy a JVC is the answer. I like Toshiba, but many like the Lite-on units, my advice is against Panasonic for picture quality, not reliability-they are rock solid. the Sony are nice but fussy about media.

    That ok? 8)

  14. Don't buy JVC is indeed the answer. The picture quality isn't what it's made up to be here anyway.

No, that's not the possibility because new machines are constructed in a different manner that addresses the previous power/heat problems of the 2004 units. This is 2 years later, things are different, get with the times. Sure, you can take the easy way out, say something sucks, but that still does not actually address the problem. You have to troubleshoot. Saying something sucks without understanding the error is giving up.

GETTING BACK TO THE ORIGINAL QUESTION...

JVC models may or may not come out when announced, that's how all companies tend to work when it comes to releasing items. They never adhere to dates, sometimes early, sometimes late. (no rhyme intended )

My advice is look at what exists on the shelves right now, and pick from those.

I would also test them on your own (from tapes, from cable, from DV camera, from the PVR, etc). Trust your own intelligent judgment when it comes to image quality and features. Never listen to bland comments online that lack technical reasoning for superiority or inferiority.

  16. FYI- the picture quality of the JVC is the nicest I have seen using Lordsmsurf suggested chain, I used a DR-1000 sign video then a datavideo TBC, I know one should use a tbc first but due to wiring considerations I do it that way, seems fine.

Also here in Canada, has a BIG problem even getting hold of a JVC dvd recorder.

You know, funny enough, I sometimes get errors on my XBOX and PS2, for this same reason. The trays have shifted over time, and sometime cause lock-ups.
