I'm getting this information secondhand, but here goes:

I have a trading partner who is suddenly having problems burning DVD's. She says she uses DVDShrink and then has it set to burn with Nero. Apparently this has worked for her in the past. Suddenly the DVD's she burns won't play anywhere. According to the software, the burn seems to work okay and takes the proper amount of time, but when she tries to play it, she gets 'Invalid format'. She says it looks like only a little bit of data got burned at the beginning. When she tries to display the structure under 'My Computer' it says something like 'File empty--0 bytes'. She's tried different brands of media. The file out of DVDShrink that she's trying to burn looks okay.

Any quick thoughts from this sketchy information? Could this be a burner problem? She can still burn CD's okay.

Burn with DVD Decrypter and set Shrink to create and ISO and to burn it with Decrypter. See if that helps. ALso do ALL the rips to DVD don't work since the problem started or is it specific to a certain disc?
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

Any DVD she tries to create has the same problem. It's not related to a specific disk. I'll pass along the info about DVD Decrypter. Thanks, Jtoolman.

Does the fact that she can still make CD's point the finger away from a burner problem?

Not necessarily, a burner has two lasers operating at different wavelengths. One for DVD, one for CD. It is quite possible for one laser to die or go out of adjustment while the other on is still working perfectly.

I would echo the advice already given though. Set Shrink to create an iso and burn with DVD Decrypter (just don't forget to delete the isos or you'll soon end up with no hard drive space left).

She tried DVDDecrypter and has since replaced the burner, but still has the same problem.

A further clarification: She can copy an entire DVD with the Nero option 'Copy a DVD', but can't pick off individual titles and burn them. We found a Nero patch that sounded like it should fix the problem (she was getting error message 'GCCore The following operation did not finish in the past 15 seconds: Grab still image (AVStillSource)' and research led to a patch called 'Patch_for_nve3' ) but still no go.

Okay, here's where we stand now.

She installed a new burner (maybe didn't need to). She peeled off one title from a DVD into DVDShrink, ran Shrink okay, then tried to burn the output file from Shrink with DVDDecrypter. She got the following error message from DVDDecrypter:

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    I/O Error!

    ScsiStatus: 0 X 02
    Interpretation: Check condition

    CBD: 2A 00 00 00 10 80 00 00 20 00

It only burned about 10 seconds of the movie. Help!!!

    Follow up:

She uninstalled some Roxio products (don't know which ones) and got a good burn with Nero!

She said she had Roxio and Nero living together peacefully on her computer for a long time and then suddenly she started having problems. She says all is well now with her new burner and no Roxio.
