  1. Hello lads, i need to know how to get scenes of a movie from DVD to make a kind of documentary to teach in a class.

Example: the scenes of Kubrick movies related to mirrors, or phones, etc...

It is possible to do this? I am not trying to get the highest quality but just average to make the point of the compilation. Nothing too fancy.

    Any suggestion my friends?

Cheers lads, and thanks for your always usefull remarks.

You could probably use Handbrake to rip the dvds to h264 and then use quicktime pro to cut/paste the material together. When finished with cutting and pasting you could make a dvd using Toast 7 to re-encode the new compilation.

I haven't tried this, but theoretically it should work.

Just tried it with Handbrake and it works perfectly. If you just rip the specific chapters from the dvds you should be able to do it fairly quickly as well.

If you do not have access to Quicktime Pro you could also use iMovie to do the editing. This will take longer as the footage will have to be encoded from MP4->DV->MP2 (DVD with Toast).
It may be possible to burn the imovie file to disc using iDVD, but in my experience Toast is the best tool for these sort of things.

The new application Hawkeye (see thread later in this forum) might be right for you as I believe it can rip and convert specific chapters from commercial DVDs.

Toast 7 lets you extract chapters from non-encrypted DVDs and export them as QuickTime or DV video for further editing. Cinematize lets you easily select start and end points for extraction from non-encrypted DVDs. You also can do specific start and end point extractions with MPEG Streamclip and Pixela's Capty MPEGEdit EX.
