HDV: look at Sony HC-1 or HC-3

You don't seem to be looking for true Prosumer which would require tripod and lights, etc. Panasonic is lacking a small HDV.

HD is the way to go..I love my camcorder but it really falls flat on the new HDTV's. Check this one out:

There is a review comparing it to the Sony HD camcorder as well.

  6. for under 3000 and HD .... Sony.
if looking for prosumer, then Canon, Sony or Panasonic, but not HD.

I have a GL-2 and love it. I would love a HD, but that goes around 4000..too much for me.
