Hello, I need advice to upgrade my old Philips 642. After long time searching I’ve found two most interesting players on the market - Pioneer 383 and Yamaha S5750.

    - Pioneer has more feedbacks, better specifications, nice MediaTek chipset.
    - Yamaha is solid build with excellent video but don’t know about chipset, is it really Philips electronics inside?

I really don’t know which is better. Mostly I will use it for DivX video, multizone and PAL in Pioneer is good but not as important as Divx quality. Would appreciate your suggestions. Thanks.

  2. Have you looked at the New Phillips 5960? Ultra Divx certified, Outputs PAL as NTSC, or NTSC as PAl, Can be made region free and accepts a USB HDD pkugged into the USB port on thefront. I'm watching a movie off of the External HDD right now as I type. Of course HDMI or Composite out.

Thanks, it's really nice player, but without S-Video output, my TV does not have HDMI

  4. yup, it beats me how they can go 99% of the way and leave out the last 1% (S Video). OTOH It has played every file I've thrown at it and has a good FF where the display looks good at 2x & 4X.

If they hadn't cheesed the remote by using the arrow keys for FF/FRev and Slo-Mo, then the keys could have been used to scroll the screen when zoomed for video instead of only for images.

Or IOW I'm still looking for a best Divx player that has it all. OTOH between this one and the Toshiba on another TV I've got it pretty well covered.
