I have MINIDV cassette that I want to capture to my computer with no compression at all.
If I use firewire to capture...Is it going to be exactly as it is in the MINIDV or is there any compression when capturing?
I'm going to use the high res or no comression setting on the software that I'm going to use to capture.
Is there any compression on a MINIDV?
Any help in this will be highly appreciate...

If you capture DV via a firewire port as DV AVI you will have an exact copy of the compressed digital video and uncompressed audio that's on the tape.

DV is hardware compressed in the camera from the video source. The compression is about 5:1. If it was raw, that would make it about 65GB an hour instead of the DV size of 13GB an hour. The DV files are big enough as is.
But as stated, the DV transfer via FireWire will give you an exact copy of what is on the tape.
And the software you use for the transfer makes no difference. It's a data transfer, nothing more.
