MPEGs and AVIs which have always played normally are now for some reason upside down.
Not all of them just some of them.
Any ideas?

you may be mixing your color formats. for instance, YUYV and UYUV are the same data in different orders, which would cause mirrored or flipped images on playback (i forget which). so it could be a conflict between what format your player is using and which one is native to your graphics card. also, some programs like netmeeting offer a "mirror" option, which i think sets the codec to do this, so if you've changed anything like that, change it back, since the player may not know it's wrong.

I am having a similar problem. I could not play SVCDs at all so I installed the demo version of WinDVD. Now when I open the file, it plays in windows media player, but it plays upside down, flipped horizontally, and the audio sounds like alvin and the chipmunks, but with a little kick of puberty.
I am using windows 98 with a current version of WMP.
any suggestions?

nevermind. I just re-installed windows media player, winDVD, and directx 8.0. that fixed everything. do the same if you're having similar problems.
