I have 140 vob files (Karaoke Vids), and i want to convert each to Xvid...
i use Autogk and it works... but i find it hard load all files manually and i think it s very slow for my system (Pentium D 2.66h 1G memory). but autoGK solve my other problem, that is, it converts vobs to xvid with two tracks (since its karaoke it needs 2 tracks)
my problem are, (a) is there any application/software that capable of loading all files, i want to use SELECT-ALL the files and then load, i know autoGK does batch processing but u have to select the files one by one... (b) autogk is good, but is there any software like autoGK but doesnt do two-pass, i want single pass i know the quality isnt good in single pass but thats ok for me, is there anyway to set autogk to use xvid single-pass?
forgive my english

Hi-

Choose Target Quality (Percentage) in AutoGK for single-pass encoding. It's not 1-pass CBR, but true VBR, so the quality is as good or better than traditional 2-pass encoding. The only thing is that you lose control over the file size. What I would suggst is that you set up a few, experimenting with the width (unless you have one particular width you prefer) and percentage (although the default gives very good quality), until you find a resolution and quality that suits you and the sizes you want. The settings will stay the same, and you can then set up each, and encode each, much more quickly. -
^thanks man for the reply. I have to try that.

Hello, need ur help Again
i tried divx (dr divx), the result is good (single-pass)...
source file size(vob) = 274,776kb
output size = 17,286kb
my question is, the output file is *.divx, if rename it to *.avi is that ok?
i tried xvid and extension is avi, and it play well in my standalone but when i try this extension "*.divx" its no good for my standalone which is not my goal.
i tried to rename it to *.avi, it plays with my PC using NeroShowtime.Forgive my english, find it hard to learn and pronounce. Peace:) -
.DivX is just the extention that divx uses in place of .avi
If you installed new version, you may know it installed codec to play .divx web files as if like .wmv
It's almost like they just addded that .divx just so all .avi will play in THEIR player.I have never changed the extention name, but cant hurt to try.If it wont play after being changed, change it back!
Also, .divx files should play in DivX stand alones IF DivX certified, which most are. -
I got into a conversation about this in another thread.
Not sure why these programs put a .divx extension on the end of their AVI files except to force you to use their player.
Although a .divx AVI will play fine in the newer Philips DivX players, they don't play correctly in the Philips 642. The .divx extension confuses the older player which is expecting to see a .avi extension and it puts a gold band at the bottom of the frame.
As for batch converting the VOBs, you might try Virtualdub-MPEG2 or VirtualdubMod and use Job Control, setting up the XviD codec and the Lame MP3 codec in full processing mode to compress all the files to XviD/MP3 AVI.
You might want to do one file manually first to make sure they're insync. Not sure how VDub will handle the flags for the audio.
If you like the results from Dr.DivX, you can use a program called PropertiesPlus to change the extension of all the .divx files in a folder to AVI. -
^140 *.divx files, that PropertyPlus solve the problem of changing filesname's extension
) thanks for that dude...
i tried to change them all from *.divx to *.avi and it works with my standalone player which also play Xvids... its very cool.
dont know the trick to use virtualdub-mpeg2, it doesnt solve one problem of mine, output file with 2 tracks (1 for vocal, 1 without vocal - since its a karaoke videos/vobs), i need suggestion on how to do that in virtualdubs. Still virtualdubs tools are really great tools imo.Forgive my english, find it hard to learn and pronounce. Peace:) -
I've never worked with a karaoke so I'm not sure what you want to do.
There is a guide to make karaoke VCDs but not AVI (since multiple audio avi doesn't play on most standalone players).
I'm thinking you probably want to make DivX Ultra to get it to work like a DVD with menus and different audio tracks and that takes special programs to create.
divx.com is probably a good place to start. They have a forum there and users have done what you're trying to do so they can probably help you better. Someone here might be able to help but you're probably better off going to the source. -
Here's a thread I found that might help you.

I'm guessing that by having 2 tracks on a karaoke DVD, you would want both tracks to play at the same time, no? I don't know if you can do that with divx/xvid.
Maybe you would rather try to take 2 different audio tracks (streams) and put one of them on the left channel and the other on the right. I'm not sure how you would go about that though. -

You might do the following:
Rip using DVD Decrypter using IFO MODE (this should be already selected)
Then go to the settings tab for IFO mode, and tick the box File Splitting By Chapter
TOOLS --> SETTINGS --> IFO MODE (tab) --> File Splitting by chapter --> OK
(you can choose to inclued or exclude certain chapters if you wish. I suppose each chapter would represent one song for you.)
Then rip your DVD
Then you can use AutoGk in single pass mode by selecting Target Quality. You might pick 75% which you can raise or lower depending on how much quality/file size you want.
Go to Advanced Settings. Under OUTPUT RESOLUTION, I would choose Fixed Width at 640 to get something similar to your DVD. I also use 128 CBR for the audio. CBR gives less issues with standalone players. You may wish to increase the sound to 192Kbs if you want.
Browse the input file and find the chapters you ripped using DVD Decrypter. Select the 2 audio tracks and then Add Job.
Repeat for each chapter. You shouldn't have to alter any of the settings. Just browse input for new file and Add Job. When you're ready, click START.
