  4. i suspected that the power supply may not have provide enough power to the video card... can that be the cause?

do you have a video card with a direct molex connector on it? and what size power supply do you have? if your not getting enough power the video card usually displays a message regarding power(at least nvidia's do) that happened to me once.

  7. right now i have athlon 64 3000+ and crappy geforce2 mx400 and this screen i made on this machine... 1 year ago i had pentium 2.66 and geforce4 ti4600 (the card was pretty good for gaming at that time) but that config began to give me pretty much the same picture in nfs underground 2 game last year until video card died... i had geforce4 ti4600 for about 3 years so the cooler on it spinned worse and worse over time so i assume the image it produced because of overheating and died also because of that... also the reason could be that i had cheap power supply at that time which also killed my hdd and also when i unplugged power connector from mobo it was all black like it was burned (amazingly the mobo was still working)...

so from my past experience i assume that it can be from overheating or a power supply... i don't have cooler on geforce2 mx400 - just the heatsink so i don't have to bother about dieing cooler anymore

IMO you need a better video card, that one your using is pretty much useless for video games these days. since your still using an AGP motherboard I would suggest grabbing a 6600gt or 6800xt card.

    hi,
there can be many different reason.... one of the most common is the refresh rate...

look at your monitor recommend refresh rate.... and insure the , in the diplay properties, The setting there fall in line!!

another possiblity... is the graphic acceleration issue... This function primarily is for your hi teck action games.... and many times slight adjustment will make improvments... although if you lower it too much you may see some slowdown of the game itself..

but like I mentioned it could be manythings..... including what I said and what others have said.. and in fact it could be just a poor monitor!! I have seen that...... so when repost your stats on your system include what kind of monitor you have

my main concern is not getting the games work but for the system to be safe and working...

AGP is on its way out the door, yes. PCI Express is the new video slot standards. Im running a 6600gt on my agp board still.
I think your solution to the problem is a new video card, the 6xxx line of cards have dedicated molex connectors, maybe you could go cheaper if you want in the 5xxx lineup or something. depends on what you prefer.
