Burning to Audio CD has been a great misadventure for me lately. Here is the chronology:

About a month ago I burned an audio CD (hadn't made one for several months). It was unplayable. The burner (only about 3 years old) couldn't read the CD it just wrote. Also I couldn't play it in my car's Cd player. I bought some new CD-RW's. Same thing, the burner made unplayable CD's. So I bought a new burner. It burns a CD that plays back fine for the first 10-12 tracks, then the rest of the disk plays back with distortion in my car's CD player. Trying to play the disk in the burner that just created it, the last several tracks played back very haltingly if at all. I've tested several disks with same results.

The only thing I haven't tried yet is replacing the cable to the burner. Could a faulty cable be causing this? What else could be going on?

i wouldn't use cd-rw, try good quality cd-r and if the same thing happens, replace the burner and 80 wire cable. they run about $25 for a new dvd burner, that will also do cd. normal lifespan is only a couple years.

As I said above, I just bought a new burner.

Here's a new piece of information. The burner creates a normal audio cd on an old 74 minute disk. But for 80 minute disk it only records the first half normally, the last half is all distorted.

So can this behavior be caused by a bad cable?

  4. What software are you using?
Does the 80min CD play ok on your PC?
    I'm thinking your player doesn't like 80min CD's.

Same thing happens with Nero and Roxio. The 80 minute plays the last half of tracks with bad static in my car. On the pc it is very halting; 2 seconds of audio out of every 5, something like that.
