    Hi everyone,
    I'm trying to set up my Sky+ box to my Toshiba RDSX-34 recorder to copy material from Sky to the HDD and then onto a DVD. The only problem is that, while the recorded material on Sky+ look OK (well 4:3), the recorded output is is 16:9 format (so, widescreen recordings end up looking squashed even further!)

    My original set up was
    Sky+ TV Scart --> TV AV1
    Sky+ Aux -> DVD Recorder AV1
    DVD Recorder AV2 - >TV AV2

    I've also tried the following:

    Sky+ TV Scart -> DVD Recorder AV2
    DVD Recorder AV1 -> TV AV1

    ...but this produces the same pronlem. I've also tried recording broadcast material, not just stuff being copied using the facility on the Sky+ planner, and output is still 16:9 !

    Can anyone help?

    TIA

    Paul

  2. Are you saying that your DVD recorder is ignoring the aspect ratio signal over SCART?

    What are your picture settings on your Sky+ box?

    Many DVD recorders ignore aspect ratio switching - I'm not sure if the rationale is widely explained from a vendore point of view, but could be because often broadcast material switches aspect ratio quite a lot (as an example, the feature may be widescreen, but the adverts 4:3 - or vice versa) and it's not compliant for titles on DVDs to have varying aspect ratios.

    Both outputs (on the settings menu) are set to 4:3 ratio.

    Cheers

    What sort of TV do you have - ie widescreen, or 4:3?

    If you've got a 4:3 TV (WITHOUT a widescreen mode) it should be set to 4:3LB.

    If you've got a widescreen TV, then it should be 16:9.

    And make sure SCART control is turned on.
