I backed up a dvd using DVDFab Decrypter. Then VOB2MPG v2.2 to make a mpg file. The audio is very quiet in the mpg file. Even at full volume on the pc, I can hardly hear it. Is there a reason for this or a better backup/ripper to use?

just a guess but it sounds like the audio needs to be normalized (no pun intended)

Using them tools,I cant see why the sound could be altered. Is it the same on the original?
The AC3 sound format can be quiet during certain parts of the video and loud in other parts. Its the way its meant to be.

DVDFab Decrypter and DVDDecrypter are both good rippers.DVDDecrypter being the best IMO.

  4. As stated, it hasn't been altered. If you're using the AC3Filter, go into the configuration and select the Loud Preset. Or fool with the sliders.

If you are playing the mpeg through something like MediaPlayer then that is probably the problem. Mediaplayer is crap on my computer....the volume is never correct/the same between it and every other player on my system.
