    Hi there,

I am a newbie and want to say that this site is great and I really appreciate all of the support all of you have been offering in the forums, I have learned a lot. That being said, I do have a question...

When I burn a DVD on my Pioneer 531, I have noticed that when i play it in another player, it just launches into the recorded material. Is there any way to set it up so that when you put a DVD that has been burned on a 531, the DVD menu comes up first and THEN you can select to go into the selected recorded material??

I hope that question made sense!!

    Thanks!!!

The Pioneer recorders all code their DVDs for automatic play of the first title and continuous play from one title to the next. The only way to access the menu is to press the menu button on the remote.

What I do when I want a menu to appear first is to extract the MPEGs from the Pioneer-created DVD to my computer and re-author a new DVD with an application that lets me choose that option. I also get a nicer-looking menu that way.

The files are VOB and not MPEGs and you have to use VideoRedo, for example, to convert to MPEG and work it with a aplication like the Ulead softwares (VideoStudio10 and Workshop2)

I'm a Mac user so I use Toast 7 to extract the video from the DVDs as MPEG files and re-author and burn a new DVD. It also works with extracting video from VR-mode DVD-RWs which is what I usually record when I know I'm going to be re-authoring.

It's the same for my Pioneer DVR-520H on every other DVD player..... EXCEPT when
I give discs to my friend, who owns a cheap-ass "Coby DVD-224" DVD Player.
The Pioneer DVR created discs go straight to the menu when he loads them.
However, I don't recommend the Coby. It sometimes skips & freezes, even with
a brand new original DVD and often cannot turn off sub-titles when playing backed-up
    DVD-R discs.

  7. I have a Pioneer 531H and thought that disks would automatically play the first title and then the next too. I just tried two dvd-r disks created by copying in high speed mode from the hdd.

These disks did neither. They did not automatically play on the 531H and did not go to the menu. When the disk tray closes, a message on screen says "loading", then another onscreen message says "Stop", "DVD-Video", "Dvd-r", "L1" , and "Stereo". After that, it goes back to whatever was on the L1 input. Using the "Disc Navigator" brings up the menu.

These disks do the same on a Panasonic ES35V. It says "Reading" then "Stop" and goes back to whatever was on the selected recorder input. No auto play or menu unless I use the "Direct Navigator" button.

  8. I'm with trhouse on this one. They do the exact same thing for me. I have to choose to start them and then they go to the menu from the disc. All other DVDs start fine and go to the menu, commercial or ones made with TMPGEnc DVD Author.

If you press the close tray button then the Pioneer recorders merely "load" the disc and do nothing else. If you close the tray by pressing the play button then the play back starts automatically.

  10. Would you believe I never tried that?

    Silly me!

  11. That makes two of us! I always use the "open/close" button.

Cheap as a DVD player ever gets (at least here in San Jose) at Fry's electronics
and goes straight to the menu with the Pioneer DVR created discs:
