  1. Hello everyone. I need some help. I am looking ot buy a not-to-expensive portable DVD player. I have no clue about which ones are considered good and bad. Also I have a lot of divx/xvid movies that I would like to be able to play on one of these things if possible. Can any1 reccomend something? Thanks for your time.

  2. i can tell you to forget Mintek, nothing but junk! Panasonic is the best if you have $$$$. Check out Polaroid 8" Portable DVD Player (PDM-0822BD) for $199 at CurcuitCity this week. I read this also has the option for a Polaroid TV Docking Station includes: 181-channel cable-ready TV tuner, battery charger, RF antenna input, A/V input/output
. To bad it only has a 3 month warrenty but i hear that's the norm for these types of players

  3. thanks but does it play divx/xvid movies? I have so many of them on DVD (4 movies each DVD) that it would be awesome ot be able to play all that as opposed to convreting to DVD format every time.

  6. If you belong to Costco they have a Toshiba SD-PK19SN combo player with an 8"screen for $159. It comes with 2 head phones, auto plug and carry case. I have had it for 3 months and no problems playing dvds' and it plays other stuff. At Toshiba web site it comes up as the SD-P1850 so guess these are the same.

  7. I'm familiar with this Aeso 6 in 1 player, Never tested Divx with it though. I may have to poke around checking what is what and make a simple test disc with Divx 3, 4, & 5 & Xvid.

I do know it plays Dual Layer +R and Single Layer -R

OK, some quick tests show that it does play Divx5, 3 out of 4 that I tried as a quick test, And strangely enough to me if set for music rather than video playback (Divx/MPG) it plays the soundtrack from WMV files and shows them as WMA. FF works on Divx/MPG as well as DVD. Shows 8 letters inthe filenames.

If anybody is interested I'll test with Xvid too. Let me know.

Display has adjustable brightness, Hue, Contrast, Saturation

The key to buying a portable dvd player is to look for the features you want and need. Some have more needs than others. The only thing to consider no matter what your needs are is that the screen is TFT unless of course you never want to watch your portable in any degree of natural light.
