I am currently having some problems with DVD-R and DVD-RW discs in this unit (Pioneer DVR 3100 / 5100 aka 310 and 510 in US)...

...and am wondering are there any guides on which discs are suitable for this unit?

Has anyone else had these problems with this?

Some discs I put in (blank discs) it will read them for around 10 seconds, then spit them back out. Won't even allow me to initialize them or anything! I have tried initializing them even on PC, and then putting them in, but still same problem! Grrrrrr

Remembering this device is a 2003 model, and it is now 2005 (almost 2006!) its not surprising that some newer discs won't work with this... and I also remember somebody finding out that under the hood was a Pioneer 106 drive - so is this drive firmware updateable (even if put into a computer and updated)?

    Tearing my hear out here!!

    Someone please help!

PS - Current problem discs are Imation 4X DVD-RW... I previously had some Imation 2X DVD-RW and they were fine!!! Grrrr

The drive in the 3100 will only work with 2X DVD-RW (which are now rather hard to find). 4X discs need a different record process, which the drive can't do.
It'll wotk with 8x DVD-R discs (finalising at 4x instead of 2x, which is nice).
