    Hello Guys,

I've burned 3 back up DVD... My own DVDs. Burned using DVD Decrypter full copy with all features and bonus material. Media used is Verbatim DVD +R DL. Video and Audio is fine. Having trouble playing through the layer break on all 3 DVD. Gets caught up and spits message Disc can not be read. It is an older GE DVD player. I am able to play the chapter before and after with the scene search option, but when running straight through the scene freezes and will not advance.

Any suggestions on how to remedy this and correct it for future burns.

What model# is the GE player ?

I also have an older GE player and it won't even play DL dvdr's.
It's the only one i have had this problem with, it plays SL dvdr's fine.
It's shelved and never gets used anyways i just used it once to see if it would play the DL's.

Have you tried the DL's on any other players ?
Does it do the same thing ?

I'd junk the GE and get a newer player.

I have tried the DL play on an Aspire DVD player. Generic name that was bought from Walmart.

I does play the DL disc with very little noticeable Layer Change. I was just hoping that someone would be able to explain/show me how to make the Layer Change to avoid the player from freeze.

Other larger length movies seem to play fine (non-backups that is) on the GE player. I'm not even sure what the model number is. Can't find the paperwork. I'll have to get back to you on that. Probably 7+ years old.

For many older players (and some not so older players) it is not a matter of changing the way you author, it is simply that they cannot negotiate the layer change on burned media. It is a physical limitation of the player itself. Ultimately, the only choice is liev with it, or buy a player that can.

  5. What about your BURNER? What model? What speed are you burning at?

It is possible (if not likely) that your burner is the culprit; I'd try another burning speed also.

    Thanks for the imput.

I have a Philips DVD +-RW 8631 with GD30 firware. I'm beginning to think that it is the DVD Player. My other DVD player has no trouble with the layer break. Just a minor hiccup but able to play through without difficulty.

Is there somehow to know which DVD players support RW media Layer Breaks? Thanks for all the imput. I came across a guide which discussed and demonstrated how to recognize the Layer Break and then talked about how to change or edit it within a DVD, but have been unsuccessful finding it again. Any Help

    Thanks for the responses.
