I've been downloading DVD shows via BitTorrent (using Azureus) for some time.
Recently, when I try to burn some of them with Toast, I am getting a message that reads something like "the files you are trying to burn are encrypted," and Toast won't deal with them. Any suggestions?

My version of Toast is 7.0.2.

    Thanks in advance,
    kris

Seems a bit of a catch-22 (not to mention a waste of licensing fees) that Public Domain material would be encrypted
    If in doubt, Google it.

If they are encrypted and you don't have the permissions to decrypt them, you might as well delete them.

And please read our AUP about warez. If you are asking for help for decrypting copyrighted material, this would be in violation of our rules.

This material is not copyrighted, it's just live music in audio or video format. In fact, the site where they are posted strictly bans all shows where material has been commercially released in any way. There really isn't any reason FOR the files to be encrypted, which is why the message from Toast seems especially mysterious.

My apologies. We sometimes jump to conclusions when we see words like 'downloaded, BitTorrent and encrypted' all in one post. I don't use my Mac much for video, mostly just graphics editing. Can you run the files through another program to convert the format? I'm thinking they might have some sort of 'encryption' flag inadvertently attached.

Hopefully a regular Mac user will give an informed answer.

I don't think the files are incrypted. I think the mac or the program is not reading something right.

I do not know anything about mac's, but I have downloaded several hundred videos from those sites. I have never seen any comments like that at all.
    Thanks Mike

I can see from where the warez confusion came.

You originally said that you downloaded "DVD shows" via torrent. "DVD shows" generally means television show episodes on DVD, without any clarification.
Further confusion may come from your statement "the site where they are posted...", which implies that you actually downloaded from a site, rather that bt (besides the fact that most bt sites, even ones with torrents for warez/copyrighted material, still have that "disclaimer").

If possible, you should contact the file seeder(s), or post your question in their forum. There's nothing better than getting info from the source. The original seeder may have made a tiny mistake when encoding, or set a flag that shouldn't have been set.
I've had people send me stuff by bt which was encrypted accidentally, as they work in both commercial and PD media, so they occassionally (though rarely) make that mistake.

    Sorry about the ambiguity!
I should have been specific right from the start. What I'm downloading are musical performances.

I do believe my problem is fairly "Toast-specific," as I can watch the downloaded files with VLC without any problems. I realize I'm in the minority with my Mac, also! (But I wouldn't trade it for anything!

That may be true, but VLC doesn't prove that, as VLC would play it anyway, even if it were really encrypted.

Toast 7 has three ways of burning your content from a VIDEO_TS folder.
    a) Video tab, DVD-Video format, re-encoding possible.
    b) Video tab, DVD-Video from VIDEO_TS format, re-quantizing possible.
    c) Data tab, DVD-ROM (UDF) format, create the folder structure yourself.
Which did you try? I'd be surprised if c failed...

I used the Video tab, DVD-Video from VIDEO_TS button.
I'll try the Data tab and see what happens - thanks for the suggestion.
