very pricey but if they come down aswell as the disks il never have to compress tv stuff again, think of it, full trillogies like lotr or godfathe ron 1 disk with no compression

good news! Maybe now regular DVD DL media will start coming down :P.

The said thing is, if you combined the LOTR EE's with DTS you would STILL need to compress it a bit to get it on the single layer blu-ray discs (assuming we are still using mpeg2)

2x Dual Layer DVD burning? I thought technology was suppose to advance not backtrack. This drive also does not support burning to 50GB discs. I'd wait until true BD burners are available. LG is producing one too now but it also doesn't do 50GB discs.

Don't you realize that the idea is that the suckers will buy this and then have to upgrade again when the 50s come out?

Manufacturers will do anything to milk you for an upgrade.

I'll wait the two or three years and get 4x (or better) the machine for 1/4 the price. :P

All that money and it won't even recognize a CD !

I'd definitely wait. Samsung is supposed to have a model out late June that does support CD's and 50GB discs. Still expensive at $500 though. They delayed it so they could add AACS copy protection. Isn't that worth the wait?

Same here, with the exception that maybe buy one at 1/10th of the price.

  12. The heck with the cost! Enjoy the technology now and upgrade when the next better device comes out. When that one is replaced, buy the next one.

You may "save" money by waiting, but who's going to have more fun? The gal who buys now or the one who waits?

Bring 'em on! It's only money!

Thing is, even if I were as rich a Bill Gates, I still don't think I'd buy one. For one, I like to wait and see if there are any kinks that need to be worked out. Two, I have no intention of re-buying the same movies I've bought before. I'm just frugal like that. And, frankly, the upconverting sets look like they might be good enough not to make HD/BR worth the trouble, at least not right now.
