i am thinking of updating my DVD-WRITER at present i am using the pioneer DVD-RW DVR 106D i want something similar that is easy to use with no fancy gimmicks just one that will erase and burn the majority of dvd-rw`s and cd-rw`s thanks for any advice

Go for a later Pioneer then. They are up to the 111 series now. Not a lot has changed, they've just got faster and can now do dual layer discs. They are also ridiculously cheap! I paid over £200 for my original 104 and £30 from www.svp.co.uk for my current 109. Changing will be a straightfoward swap, nothing will appear any different until you come to burn a disc and it will do it in a lot less time.

I just replaced my dead Pioneer 106D with this Samsung burner that has been great so far:

It does have added features like writing to RAM discs and Lightscribe, but you don't need to use them. The drive is a bit slower than most at loading/mounting discs, but otherwise excellent. I've used it to write DVD+RW and CD-RW and it writes very reliably so far. It's also an inch shorter depth-wise than the Pioneer, so that should give your computer case more breathing room. -
