After all the posts about it and not being able to download it, I forgot about it. I said it would be good if it weren't outdated like Google maps was. Well, it turns out that it is exactly the same as Google maps. Check this out:

This is what Google Earth shows:

This is a shot I took last year at the same exact spot:
    His name was MackemX

What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?

yes and i also found that certain areas right next to each other are different quality.. BUT the cool thing i found is that in parts of the grand canyon you can zoom in and tilt so you are looking at the canyon in 3D.. again parts are poor quality some are great quality.. as is niagra falls.

Millenium park in Chicago isn't exactly old, either. How long has that place been up now? A tad over a year? So that pic is ... mm.... 2-4 years out of date. Not the best, no, but not the worst I've ever seen (re: terra server).

It officially opened around August last year. That's when I took that picture. But, that structure you see has been up for at least the past three and half years. In the Google image its not even up yet.

Alright, so my guesstimate was a little off. Still, half the images I used to pull on terraserver (and still use occasionally) seem to be from the 1980-1990 range! I google-earthed my apartment building (less than a year old), and it was there. Just hit and miss I guess.

i think they add or do add pics as they are updated or released from NASA.. as i mentioned. some areas are great detail and others are very poor.. you can tell just by looking at the photo from a distance because the poor quality are darker green and look like a video game where the ones of higher detail are grayer or lack deep color. but if you zoom in they are actually very nice pics..

Ive noticed that most major cities are fairly newer where outlying areas are not so detailed and in some cases alot older.

  12. Try

For the US at least, the map is far more detailed
but more computer resources are required.

  13. I tried that but I can't get any detail here in Wisconsin, can you help me out?

On page 3 I gave Capmaster some tips with a similar problem he was having. Maybe go through the whole thread.

Ok, I changed my vertical exaggeration to 0.0 but I still can't get a good resolution in Madison, Wisconsin - with any of the satellites

I believe that google earth is on a three year rotation... no map should be older that three years.

That's from when they started renovating it. I'm guessing the shot was taken in mid 2002.

wasn't this thread outdated . My area was also outdated as it's changed quite a lot but Google was from around 1999-2000

I enjoyed playing with Google Earth but it soon lost it's appeal once I'd looked at certain places on the earth

Here is a castle in Germany.

The Google map link is here...

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=augsburg+germany&ll=47.860858,12.399101&spn=0....86002&t=k&om=1

You have to zoom in to see the castle and the gardens.
You can also drag the map around with the mouse.

This is what the castle looks like...
