I just recieved the largest number of C1/C2 errors ever in Nero CD-DVD Speed. The surface scan was even worse. Has anyone here had any experience with this landfill CD manufacturer? I certainly won't be purchasing them anymore. My Princo CDs have garnered far superior results. Too bad we don't have a section for CD media. People need to be warned away from these.

On https://www.videohelp.com/ main page there is a media area where users report on quality, and I'd check there before buying any media. I've had best results with Verbatim, Ritek and Optodisc. I've heard many good things about Taiyo-Yuden, but I've not gotten around to trying them yet since I still have a good Verbatim supply. Never buy any media regardless of price unless good ratings are available.

That media area is solely for DVD Media. I'm talking about bad CD media. Try inputting Plasmon and see if you get anything. They obviously don't make DVD media under that brand name.

I've never even heard of this media. Where did you buy it? How much did you pay for it?

Canada has a treaty with Taiwan so we get all sorts of unknown media. Ever hear of the "Tiger" brand? Neither did I, until I saw it this week.

Plasmon is commonly sold under the "Multipoint" brand name. But It's also sold in generic no name spindles. I bought it here: www.Pacificmalltoronto.com More commonly referred to up here as bootleg central. I paid $7.99 Can for a 50 spindle. If burned at a slow 8x they have far fewer errors but they're still crap. The Princos I usually pick up there for $10.00 Can were sold out.

Thanks for the detailed info. I don't use CD media all that often anymore and I don't think I will ever have to buy any again because I stocked up pretty good but it is good to know if I ever do buy again.

    Do the math.

In Canada, the Levy (sin tax) on CD-Rs is $0.21 per disk. If you are buying spindles of 50 CD-Rs for $10 or less, then it's obvious no levy was collected. Who knows how those disks got to the point of sale, where they came from or how good they are. Buyer beware.

I'll stick to name brand disks and live with the levy.

Lol! Good luck with that levy. :P Those brand name CDs are just re-branded discs from the same companies. And of the same quality. The difference is you're paying far more through the chains than from independents. Try the branded Maxell discs and use Nero scan. Same results as cheaper Riteks.

I did not know Plasmon was still around or anyone else who owns them.

I bought a ten pack years ago and found about 3 or 4 to be worthless and could not be written. The ones that did work are going strong - the disc I scanned was written January 1998. Used an HP-4020i to write to them.

I bought the Plasmon at the time because of price - my first CD-R's were $12.71 each (but they all work 10 years later). Tried a Nero Info on one of them and the Manufacturer ID is "Plasmon" - surprised to read that as I expected some other manufacturer. This batch was manufactured in the UK.

I vowed never to buy Plasmon again but never had the opportunity based on the poor success rate. I will say that the ones that did work have lasted nearly ten years - I cannot say that about other discs.

Thanks for the feedback. I thought I was the only one. The discs I bought were definitely made in Taiwan. If burned at 8x the discs are playable even on low end players like the Phillips or Kosch without issue. I made a miniDVD and it also plays just fine. Burned at higher speeds they stutter throughout. But still have a significant number of errors. I doubt they'll last as long as yours.

I feel the same about Philips CD media...complete garbage. I buy Sony 700MB media and TDK 800MB media.

In this day and age who would have thought we'd need to worry about the quality of CD media? Surprisingly my favorite Sony CDR's are made by Ritek according to Alcohol 120.
