I have 8 Beta tapes of the original Live Aid concert (1985) from England and Philadelphia..I copied them from 7:00 am till 11:00 pm and just let them run..It was broadcast by MTV via satellite..This concert was never released to the public..now i want to put them on dvd..I bought a JVC DR-M100s recorder and it works fine for me..Question? should i just transfer them the way they are, with the commercials et all or edit and just transfer just the main concert..i'm on two minds here..

Actually, the concert was released last year on DVD. Not the whole thing, but many hours of highlights.

As to how you should transfer, that is up to you. Considerations

    - How much time do you want to spend doing this ?
    - How often will you watch them ?
    - How much will it piss you off having the ads in them ?
    - Do you just want videos, or are you going to create menus, chapters, etc. ?
    - How much of what you have isn't on these discs -> http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/002-4430317-7516027?%5Fencoding=UT...rds=live%20aid
    - Is you time worth more than what it costs to buy the commercial release ?

Because some tapes have been lost, the commercial release is missing some important performances - Led Zepplin, Bob Dylan and others, so these are definately worth preserving.

I think the 20 year old commercials would give it a 'retro' look, and we all have a FF button...

Then again, it's all bitrate. Where do you want yours to be spent - on the performances, or on some piece of crap from K-Tel ?

Or weigh the cost of all that editing -vs- the cost of the additional blank DVD space needed...
